British Team On Fire Heading Into European Championships

Exciting racing is coming this Sunday, 5 November, with the UEC Cyclocross European Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic. British Cycling announced the team picks on Monday, and on Wednesday, three of the team’s athletes proved their readiness by topping the podium at Koppenbergcross in Belgium.

Helen Wyman leads the women’s roster for this weekend’s event. Wyman has previously been European champ in 2012 and 2013, and her 2013 victory also came at Tabor. If she wins this Sunday, she’ll be just one of three women to claim three European titles. Wyman bested Katie Compton to stand atop the podium at Koppenbergcross.

Tom Pidcock, the reigning junior European cyclocross champ (and road time-trial champ as well), steps up to the U-23 category this year with a target already on his back. Pidcock won the hotly contested U-23 race in the final seconds at Koppenbergcross; he also won the World Cup in Koksijde last month.

The junior category for the team is strong, led by Ben Tulett, who has been hovering near the top in both the HSBC UK Cyclo-cross National Trophy Series and in the international races he’s contested so far this season.
