We’ve agonised over which of the stories and features from the previous four issues of Grit should be included, and the finished product delivers a cross-section of everything that’s great and good about cyclocross – from the down and often dirty but always glorious side of racing, with Ben Berden, The 3 Peaks, Simon Burney and Helen Wyman; to the remote, out-there adventures of Spinning for Gold, a CX Epiphany and Salsa’s Italian Job. There’s a brace of reviews of bikes that will stand the test of time from Cielo and Niner, and we’ve included some of the culture, too, reprising the Belgian Beatles, singlespeeds, gravel grinding and – of course – a visit to the ‘Cross Wizard.
There’s also a threesome of features commissioned exclusively for the annual. Natalia Mendez takes an honest look at what it takes to transform from rider to racer, Tom Hill visits the post-industrial landscapes of Snowdonia to discover the connection between slate and steel, and we review Lynskey’s quirky superbike, the ProCross.
It’s all wrapped up in 132 beautifully designed, real, printed pages, and we can’t wait for it to come off the press. We hope you’re as excited about holding Grit Annual #1 in your hands as we are!
